“Legacy of War” with Ed Marohn at Country Bookshelf
Broadcast on KGVM 95.9 Radio, Bozeman, MT
Ed Marohn served in the Vietnam War as a US Army captain in the 101st Airborne Division commanding a combat unit. That experience, and his volunteer work with vets who have PTSD, are the background for his new novel, which stems from an idea he had when he returned to modern day Vietnam in 2009. Legacy of War is set 30 years after the war ended, and is an action-adventure which begins when a new patient triggers psychologist John Moore’s traumatic memories of his last days of the Vietnam War. In the following talk, Marohn describes the novel and how it relates to the mental health symptoms of PTSD. Listen on this link. http://kgvm.org/show/legacy-of-war-with-ed-marohn/

Read what readers have to say:
I just finished reading your book. What a great read! I was throughly captivated by it and learned a great deal about the Vietnam War I did not know. The plot was intriguing and fast paced. The detailed descriptions of the war, both physically and emotionally, were so realistic that I completely envisioned what you and others experienced there. I greatly appreciate your setting the novel to tell the Viet Con side as well as that of the US. I am looking forward to your next novel. Be sure to let us know when it is published.

"I really enjoyed this book. The author clearly is well-informed about the customs, practices, and connections of Viet Nam, the military, and the war. He's is very strong in the many actions sequences and, once the story takes off, the reader is pulled along and compelled to the end. The novel is well plotted, realistic, and humane. I liked that the plot was unpredictable but not unrealistic. The twists and turns made sense within the context of the plot. Recommended"

“ Author Ed Marohn does an excellent job revealing the terrible price veterans pay long after the conflict is over. PTSD is little understood or appreciated by non-combatants and the suicides should be proof enough veterans are mistreated. Main character John Moore represents so many, many veterans who are forgotten and face demons and horrible memories alone. I know Ed Marohn personally and his own experiences in the Vietnam War make him a very credible author. Very worthwhile read!”

“ I finished Legacy of War at one in the morning and the ending was an amazing twist that I didn’t expect! I literally felt those last pages of John Moore's struggles through the quagmire of brutal memories as he tried to keep himself and Heiu alive. I understood Nam on a level I never felt before.”

"If you like a good, solid mystery with unexpected twists and turns, you will like Legacy of War. But this book is much more than a mystery. You will learn about the history and culture of Vietnam and how the war there affected the people on both sides. You will also learn more about the complexity of human nature. Mr. Marohn is a Vietnam veteran--when he describes the jungles, the battles, the mud and insects, you feel as if you were there. He has meticulously researched both the history and the psychology of his book. I give Legacy of War a five-star recommendation."

"I enjoyed the book. I don't read a lot of novels, but this gripping novel reminds us of some sad history we shouldn't forget."

“Very captivating and realistic. The flash backs, descriptions of the people, country side, and the individual duplicities made it all too real.”

"I read a good deal of historical fiction (Steve Berry) and thriller/mystery (Clancy, Ludlum and those licensed to continue their characters, Brad Taylor and Brad Thor) and such as Brad Metzler to mention a few.) I have also read all of Jacquline Winspear’s novels that focus on WWII. I tell you that so as to give a bit of credence and context to my comments. Your “Legacy of War” is on par with them all. My regret is that it was shelved with Brenda’s books for way too long before I read it. She loved it as did I. Our congratulations."

Ed Marohn uses his experience in the Vietnam War with the 25th Infantry Division and 101st Airborne Division to weave a fictional tale about a man combating demons from his war-torn past as a soldier. It’s a tale of suspense that will have you at the edge of your seat all night long.
